Los coleccionistas norteamericanos de tarjetas postales han dado en llamar “DELTIOLOGY” (sin traducción al idioma español hasta el presente), y dicen que es “el nombre formal en los Estados Unidos para coleccionar tarjetas postales”.

Los coleccionistas latinoamericanos, la llamamos “CARTOFILIA”, también sin traducción al idioma español.

Los “deltiologistas” norteamericanos dicen que su hobby  ocupa el tercer lugar en el mundo dentro de los “coleccionables”, solamente superado por los numismáticos (monedas) y filatelistas (sellos). Y haciendo justicia agregan que el coleccionar los temas del baseball de los Estados  Unidos, a pesar de ser muy grande, lo consideran un hobby nacional, no mundial.

Llámesele como quiera llamársele, el coleccionar tarjetas postales antiguas para los latinoamericanos se ha convertido en nuestros días en una contagiosa afición por intentar recuperar algo de nuestra historia que se ha venido perdiendo con el paso del tiempo. Loable tarea que le correspondería realizar a los departamentos culturales de nuestros gobiernos, encargados naturales del mantenimiento de nuestros patrimonios artísticos y culturales.

Esta observación, esta necesidad y nuestra vocación por estos hermosos pequeños pedazos de historia  impresos en una cartulina, han hecho que nazca orgullosa VIEJASPOSTCARDS.COM, orgullosa no solamente por lo que toda nueva actividad significa, sino por ser la primera en llenar un vacío en el espectro internacional. De ahora en más, las tarjetas postales latinoamericanas ocuparán un lugar preponderante en el mundo de las tarjetas postales. Hemos dejado de formar parte de ese grupo minimizadamente llamado Resto del Mundo, o Foreign Postcards...

The North American collectors of postcards have given in calling “DELTIOLOGY” (without translation to the Spanish language until the present), and they say that it is “the formal name in the United States to collect post cards.”  

The Latin American collectors, we call it “CARTOFILIA”, also without translation to the Spanish language.  

Those “deltiologistas” North Americans say that their hobby occupies the third place in the world inside those “collectable”, solely overcome by the numismatists (coins) and philatelists (stamps). And making justice adds that collecting the topics of the baseball of the United States, in spite of being very big, they consider it a national hobby, not worldwide.

Call it like they want to call, collecting old postcards for the Latin Americans has become our days in a contagious liking to try to recover something of our history that one has come losing with the step of the time. Praiseworthy task that would correspond to carry out to the cultural departments of our governments, taken charge natural of the maintenance of our artistic and cultural patrimonies.  

This observation, this necessity and our vocation for these beautiful small printed history pieces in a bristol board, they have made that proud VIEJASPOSTCARDS.COM is born, proud not only for what all new activity means, but to be the first one in filling a hole in the international spectrum. Of now in more, the Latin American postcards will occupy a preponderant place in the world of the postcards. We have stopped to form part of that group minimumly called Rest of the World, or Foreign Postcards...
